EPMD - Long Island, NY - 1987 Two teenagers named ERIC SERMON & PARRISH SMITH came together to form a group that would leave a lasting impression on HIP-HOP til today. Debuting in an era of strict originality, EPMD out shined most of the comp. With the sound of funk and soul mixed with HIP-HOP, these guys would create their own lane and earn gold and platinum records. Signed to FRESH/SLEEPING BAG RECORDS and RUSSELL SIMMON'S RUSH MANAGEMENT, they would go straight to the top. Their first record, IT'S MY THING/YOUR A CUSTOMER, followed by, YOU GOTS TO CHILL, set the tone straight out the gate! They would later sign to DEF JAM RECORDINGS and introduce new acts such as STEZO, who was a disgruntle dancer that left the group. DJ SCRATCH who has produced many hit records. THE HIT SQUAD, DAS EFX, K-SOLO, REDMAN, HURRICANE G, DEF SQUAD, KEITH MURRAY and more.
